“I’m Home—Beaufort Waterfront and the Meka II”

|
The Meka II, launched in 1967, was built by Captain Horatio Sinbad. The ship is a 54', half-scale replica of a 17th century, two-masted pirate brigantine armed with six cannons. Of the painting and the process of creating it, Warshaw said, "this painting came 'through me.' Many miracles happened as I painted. That is why those who see it are touched—connecting to something bigger than me or even the painting itself." The original painting is now in the collection of a local resident who has roots dating back to Beaufort’s first settlers. The artist gratefully acknowledges assistance with structural details in photographs taken by Scott Taylor and James Piver. |
